Most children have their favorite professions that they would like to do in the future. In their dreams they become, among others; doctors, veterinarians, policemen or detectives. Fortunately, many of these professions do not have to remain in the realm of dreams. And what does it look like for a detective?

A detective is mostly associated with such an image. Of course, the modern detective has little in common with the fictional hero of the novel. It would seem that they have one thing in common: the desire to solve a criminal mystery. Certainly, in many cases this is the case, but nowadays detective agencies take on a wide variety of assignments. The tasks of a detective include searching for property or missing persons, gathering information, cooperating with the police on criminal cases, but also, for example, tracking unfaithful spouses. It should also be remembered that the profession of a private detective is not the same as that of a police detective. The latter is a police officer, carrying out orders from a superior. His task is to gather information on a case and use it in practice.

Police and private detectives should exhibit similar character traits. Physical strength is important, but more important is strength of mind. Brilliance, perceptiveness, cleverness, memory for faces – these are important qualities of a good detective. In addition, mental resilience, courage and patience, not only during the work, but also on the way to the dream profession.
How to become a police detective – way one
A police detective is simply another term for an investigating officer. The path to this profession can go two ways. One way is to join the police and become a detective through successive promotions. This also involves choosing a course of study at the Police College. It is also possible to take a six-month professional training course for graduates with a different major. In addition, the Police College must be graduated with a degree, at least a bachelor’s degree, or, in the case of another university, a master’s degree. Promotion to investigating officer is additionally preceded by an officer’s exam. It is a long road to the dream profession, often planned while still in high school. Therefore, it is decided by those absolutely convinced that they want to associate their future with the detective profession.
How to become a detective in the police – way two
Only in 2019, there is a new opportunity for lovers of this profession. At the Police School in Szczytno, the direction “Police Science” was created. The study lasts four years and is completed with the degree of Assistant Commissioner of Police. However, in this case, too, you must first pass the recruitment for the police profession. After that, you can apply for admission to university, with specific subjects on the high school diploma being important, as well as grades. Only the best high school graduates have a chance to get into university.
How to become a private investigator
Until a few years ago, a candidate for a private detective had to pass a state exam. It covered topics in various fields, especially in the area of law. This allowed people who were better prepared substantively to take this job. Today, the way to become a private detective is simpler – it is enough to obtain the appropriate license. However, the candidate must meet several conditions, and document them with the application. An application for a license can be submitted in writing or electronically to the Administrative Proceedings Department of the Provincial Police Headquarters in a given province. You wait up to 30 days for a response.
Conditions for obtaining a private investigator’s license:
– at least 21 years of age
– minimum secondary education
– legal capacity
– certificate of no criminal record
– doctor’s certificate of fitness to work in the profession
– Polish citizenship, and in the case of citizens of countries from the European Union or EFTA, knowledge of Polish language to an advanced degree
– proof of completion of training in the following areas: protection of personal data and classified information, regulations governing the rights and duties of a detective, rules of activity in this profession
